CA Healthcare Craziness

The health insurance coverage I am currently on is ridiculous!  I will withhold the name of the heath insurance for multiple reasons.  It covers my all my Dr. visits to my OBGYN (Dr. Leslie) which is good and I am grateful.  However, the hospital where she delivers has just recently stopped taking my insurance so she can't deliver my son!!  I'm not kidding.  I can see her,  but I cannot go to her hospital (which also happens to be the closest one to my home).

I will be able to continue to see her until week 37 at which time I will have to go to another Dr. (also covered by my insurance) in order to be delivered by that Dr. at a hospital which takes my insurance.

Here's the real kicker.  I have been told by someone in the medical field (again, withholding names) the following information about maternity and the California HIPPA laws.  I have not verified this with any research as of yet, so please don't take this as the gospel truth...just what I was told.

Apparently, regardless of the type of insurance you have...if a pregnant women checks in to a hospital ER contracting regularly and in pain, they cannot transfer her to another hospital.  Hmmmmm...interesting.  So, even though the hospital where I WANT to deliver my baby will not take my insurance and therefore will not schedule a c-section for me, I can walk into the ER with steady contractions (and in pain which goes hand in hand) and they have NO CHOICE but to deliver my baby either by VBAC or c-section anyway.  Last minute and unplanned.  That HAS to be more expensive?!?!?

Interesting....ridiculous, but interesting.  It's no wonder our health care system is going down the tubes.  None of this makes any sense!
